Scalamandre,
There’s Just Something About That Name
Bonita Farinelli
In the movie The Truman Show, Jim Carey spent a large part of his life restricted by the boundaries of the movie set which was to him the world as he knew it. It was only after he followed his human instinct to venture beyond the “set” that he experienced the real world in all it’s wonder. Such is the world of fabric.
I love fabric; this passion helped determine my career choice. In the younger years of my designing life I was content to live within the boundaries of my “fabric world”. It is only after I found my way beyond the “set” that my creative opportunities became alive. I am not alone. Many customers, friends and family have not had exposure to the fine wines of fabric. Anyone who stops by my studio knows there is always a bolt of fabric leaning on the wall. This is my newest treasure and it will rest there until its‘ future is determined. The essence of this fabric, whether it is purchased for its’ superb weave, weight, color or hand (the feel of the fabric when you touch it) is recognized and appreciated by my visitors. Its’ quality is apparent; it is art in fabric form.
While the manufacturing of fabric has been advanced by technology, great fabric houses (most established in the late 1800’s) have maintained their reputation by standing firm on the standards and/or styles that have been the foundation of their business. Come, let’s explore the “fine wines” of the fabric world.
